Gluten Free Orlando Restaurants Introduction
Gluten free Orlando restaurants are a must as a celiac/coeliac. As much as we love to cook from home, sometimes we like to treat ourselves to a meal out. Whether it’s a special occasion or we’re doing dinner and a movie, we’ve found a bunch of places we love in our area. Although our cooking has gotten good enough that sometimes we can’t justify paying for something that we could easily make at home, we also like to find restaurants that not only have great food but that we trust. We have some of our top gluten free Orlando restaurants here.
We’ve talked before about some of our struggles eating out with Isabelle’s celiac/coeliac disease and long list of food sensitivities. While it can be a pain at times (quite literally), we’ve also found some really great finds near us. We’re located in Central Florida near Orlando, so whether you’re visiting the theme parks on vacation, a local, or you have one of these restaurants near you, we’re going to show you our favorite picks.
Note: This list does not include Walt Disney World restaurants. If you want to see those, then check out our previous post.
Five Guys Burger and Fries
When we’re in the mood for a fast-food burger (or a burger in general), it’s hard to resist a stop at Five Guys. Not only are they the most cost-effective option on the list, but they’re also great with food sensitivities. They will do glove-changes if you have an allergy, package your food separately from your non-celiac companions (if you ask), and do lettuce wraps for burgers. Their fries are made in a dedicated frier, and they’re made from fresh potatoes.
The one caveat of this restaurant is that it’s basically a death-trap if you have a peanut allergy. Everything is cooked in peanut oil (which tastes amazing if that’s not an issue for you), and their are shelled peanuts when you walk in.
Francesco’s Ristorante & Pizzeria (Top Gluten Free Orlando Find)
This one was one of Peter’s finds a while back, and it’s honestly one of our favorite places to go. It has great options for gluten free food in the Orlando area. This Italian restaurant has an amazing selection of food and they’re happy to talk to you about allergies. It also has a nice ambiance and it’s the kind of local business that we like to support. Though their gluten-free pasta contains corn, if you don’t have a sensitivity to this ingredient then you will be fine. Their gluten free pizza dough is corn-free and they always accommodate Isabelle’s allergies and do what they can to make sure she has a great experience.
Blaze Pizza
This is one of our other fast-food finds in the area, though like Five Guys it can be found just about anywhere. If you’re celiac, then it’s better to tell the restaurant that it’s an allergy and not a preference, and then they’ll take all the necessary precautions: glove changes, separate sauces, and separate cooking spaces and tools. As a bonus, they carry Daiya cheese for those who are vegan or dairy-free. These personalized pizzas make it easy for celiacs and non-celiacs to eat out together.
Seasons 52
This restaurant has a good selection of seasonal, locally grown foods. The menu changes throughout the year, and the focus tends to be on a healthier fare (for a while they didn’t even carry butter at the restaurant). This is a good place to go for a special occasion, especially if you’re seated in the wine room.
Bonefish Grill
We have been able to access a number of Bonefish Grill restaurants in our area. It’s a great dinner spot that we’ve gone to many times on date nights, or even with friends or family. They also serve a nice brunch selection. This restaurant has great seafood, but if that’s not your thing then they have other options (Peter loves their pad Thai).
Marlow’s Tavern
This is a more casual sit-down dining restaurant. Isabelle had some great dining experiences there when she lived closer, but it’s one that we’ll always remember for their great handling of her food sensitivities. They always remember her there, and the chef has taken time to talk to her and make her almost anything she wanted. When Isabelle had a bad experience at another restaurant and had to leave without even ordering, she went there and they took care of her with no problem.
The General Public House (Top Gluten Free Orlando Find)
This locally-owned business has been a favorite in the family. Peter’s brother had his wedding rehearsal dinner there, and we’ve made many a trip there. With a celiac owner, we’ve always been in good hands with this restaurant. The cuisine is Southern, and changes from time-to-time.
Isabelle often likes to settle down on their goat cheese stuffed chicken. Easily one of the most delicious items on the menu. Meanwhile, Peter has his pick of a variety of items like fresh made fried chicken, mac and cheese, or even a prime rib sandwich that really soars.
Whatever item you decide to try here, we have yet to have a bad experience. Everything is cooked to perfection, causing us to salivate our entire trip there.
Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant (Top Gluten Free Orlando Find)
One of our absolute favorite special occasion spots has got to be Cooper’s Hawk. This one is a bit more out of the way for us than it used to be, but it’s worth the trip. They have a wine club since they actually produce their own wine, and they have some of the best food that we have had. Peter loves their chicken dishes (which we wouldn’t usually go out of our way for at a restaurant), while Isabelle loves their seared Atlantic salmon (available on the gluten free menu).
When it comes to gluten free Orlando restaurants. Cooper is more accessible due to it having more than one location. Still, despite having many places to manage, the food quality is still pristine making it one of our favorite places to go. In fact, this is the place we went to when Peter asked Isabelle to be exclusive, easily making it a favorite.
